Decorating With Tropical Products

When it comes to decorating or renovating your home, few things shout character and charm like well chosen tropical products. Whether you have a bamboo themed home, a Tiki bar that needs some accessorizing or are just looking to make your home different, the right tropical products can work wonders. From bamboo, bamboo fence, to real palm thatch, or synthetic thatch on a roof or bamboo wall paper, all these products can add a relaxing environment for you to chill out in.

The first step is to decide what you want to accomplish. Take the room or wall dimensions so that you can determine how much material you need. Do some Google searches to find existing designs. Do you want to do a whole wall of bamboo or just use the bamboo as an accent? Are looking for a rustic appearance, or do you want a more refined look? If you are a business, do you have any fire retardant issues you need to address? Take the time to plan out your project and it will go more smoothly.

If bamboo is going to play a big part in your design think of using different diameter pieces of bamboo. A variety of sizes of bamboo is very pleasing to the eye. Consider using split bamboo on flat walls. It is easy to apply and will sit firmly on the surface. Make sure to pre-drill each piece before nailing or screwing to the wall. Make sure you hit a stud. Large diameter bamboo poles can fit in corners for a really nice look. You will need to secure them in some fashion so they do not fall down. I like to wrap them with some cooper wire and tie the wire to a screw I have set in the wall. Standard wood working tools can be used to cut the bamboo. Use fine cut saws.

Another option for walls is tropical wall paper. For the tropical wall paper you have the option of bamboo wall paper, reed wall paper, grass wall paper or a variety of wall papers made of grass, reed or palm leaves. The tropical wall papers can be applied with standard wall paper paste, but I prefer to use the heavy duty wall paper paste. Cut the wall paper to size, lay on a table and apply the wall paper paste with a paint roller. Be sure to put sizing on the wall first.

We have had many customers also use our fencing on walls. The options are: bamboo fence, reed fence, willow fence, twig fence and split bamboo fencing. These are easy to install and you can cover a lot of area inexpensively. All of the fences can be cut to lenght by snipping the connecting wires and at the required length and then re-twisting with a pair of pliers. To attack the bamboo fence, or any of the others to the wall, I would use screws or very long staples. Be sure to hit a stud. Since the fences in must cases is six feet tall you may need to overlap two pieces. You can cut the fences to height with a saw or pruning scissors.

Both the real Palm Thatch and the Synthetic Thatch ( SynThatch) are easy to install. Typically using nails or screws. There are advantages to both products. The real palm thatch is relatively inexpensive, but need to be replaced every two years or so, if used outside. The Synthetic Thatch ( SynThatch) is expensive, but it will last a good twenty years, and also has a built in fire retardant.

Good Luck with your project. Please contact us for more detailed information if you have any questions.
